Vision is defined as the state of being able to see. People who have not any problems about vision or visual perception may not realise what vision really means to them and how hard the life can be with just a small deficit on our visual pathway. That’s why I would like to share the definitions of some visual pathway deficits and visualization of them with you.

Visual field is the area that can be seen when eyes are fixated in one point. However, it is not always complete and clear because sometimes there can be a problem or deficit in our visual pathway.

Here you can see visual pathway lesions in different areas
Normal Visual Field (upper), Homonymous hemianopia(buttom left), Incomplete hemianopia (buttom middle), Scotoma (buttom right)

Homonymous hemianopia: defective vision or blindness in half of the visual field; usually applied to bilateral defects caused by a single lesion.

Incomplete hemianopia (Homonyous upper quadrantanopia) : loss of only a part of the half of the visual field

Scotoma: An area of lost or depressed vision within the visual field, surrounded by an area of less depressed or of normal vision.
